Species text
A migrant species that is unable to survive the winter climate in the East of England. Clover spp. are used as the larval foodplant, particularly Lucerne (Medicago sativa), a fodder crop found extensively on the Dengie Peninsular. First brood migrants are uncommon with occasional sightings in May. Some years have no sightings, but most records are from August to October, with individuals often staying near the coast. The warmth of the autumn sea provides some protection against frost, so some Clouded Yellow survive into early November at locations such as Rainham Marshes. References
